What are the Requirements for a Commercial Driver's License?

Are you considering a career as a commercial driver? If so, you'll need to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) to legally operate certain types of vehicles. In this blog post, we'll outline the requirements and eligibility criteria you need to meet before applying for a CDL.

1. Age requirement

Most states require you to be at least 18 years old to apply for a CDL, but you must be 21 years or older to drive across state lines or transport hazardous materials.

2. Valid driver's license

You must possess a valid driver's license from your state of residence before applying for a CDL.

3. Proof of residency and citizenship

Applicants must provide proof of residency and citizenship, or lawful permanent residency, in the United States.

4. CDL physical and medical examination

5. Pass the written knowledge test

6. Pass the skills test

The skills test assesses your ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle, including vehicle inspection, basic control skills, and on-road driving.
